III. Prizes and Honors

- Elected member of the Chilean of Sciences in 1984.

- Elected Prosecretary of the Academy in 1987 and reelected till 1994.

- J.S. Guggenheim Fellow, USA (1989).

- National Science Prize of Chile in 1991, (this prize is given every 2 years and is the highest distinetion for a scientist in Chile).

- Elected President of hte Chilean Academy of Sciences in December 1994.

- Prize of Phycisc of the Third World Academy os Sciences, TWAS 1997.

- Master Card Prize for Science and Technology, 1987.

IV. Scientific edition

- Editor of the Proceedings of the International Workshop on Instabilities and Nonequilibrium Structures (this Workshop takes place every 2 years in Chile since 1985 and five books have already appereared with Kluwer Academic Publishers).

- Editor of the Proceedings of the Conference of the University of Louvaina - la - Neuve, Belgium, on functional integration, Plenum Press (1980).

- Member of the editorial board of the Revista de Matemáticas Aplicadas (Santiago, Chile).

- Director together with Professor Servet Martínez of the new series "Nonlinear Phenomeana and Complex systems" which is published by Kluwer Acadmic Publishers, Holland (the first volume of the series appeared in October 1995).
